I’ve been listening to a lot of records lately, and some of the ones that I’ve really been into are:
Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet: Wisława (ECM)
Tony Malaby’s Apparitions: Voladores (Clean Feed)
Steve Coleman: The Mancy of Sound / Harvesting Semblances and Affinities (Pi Recordings)
Craig Taborn Trio: Chants (ECM)
Liudas Mockūnas & Marc Ducret: Silent Vociferation (NoBusiness)
Wayne Shorter: Beyond the Sound Barrier (Verve) / Without A Net (Blue Note)
Loren Stillman: Blind Date (Pirouet)
Jacob Anderskov: Granular Alchemy (ILK)
Dmitri Shostakovich: The Symphonies (Decca)
I have also been reading William Parker’s book “Conversations” as well as a bunch of interviews. Ronan Guilfoyle recently posted this interview with Steve Coleman on his website and I’ve also been reading a couple of the interviews posted on Ethan Iverson’s “Do the Math”, a blog/site that I think is a real treasure.
And I’ve been to a couple of concerts that have made an impact:
GUSH @ Inter Arts Center, Malmö on May 11th, 2013
Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet @ Copenhagen Jazz House on July 6th, 2013
Jacob Anderskov/Nils Davidsen/Gerald Cleaver @ Huset, Copenhagen on July 8th, 2013
Tim Berne’s Snakeoil @ Copenhagen Jazz House on July 14th, 2013
To be continued…
